DIY Bring Spa Home by Transforming your Bathroom
BATHROOM SPA ON A BUDGET
Ladies, the weather outside is frightful and your mood might not be so delightful after a long day working, dealing with kids and then getting ready for the holidays. PTA bake sale? Ugh. Mother-in-law on the phone? We’ll be right there. Deep breath. There’s no time (and maybe no budget) to run out to a local spa for a nice soaking bath and scrub. That doesn’t mean you don’t get the R&R necessary to de-stress your life. Bring Spa Home Treatments to you for the Holidays.
You can turn your bathroom into a five star spa with only one member: YOU. Here are a few of my favorite tips on how you can “get away” and feel great without ever leaving your house.
- Create your home spa to model your favorite spa. If you like the fact that they offer water out of crystal glasses then buy a gorgeous goblet for your bathroom. Invest in that fluffy robe and have beautiful baskets to place your home spa tools. Hide a few gorgeous candles that only come out for spa night and special towels that you only use for these special times. Buy a small boom box and have relaxing music ready, try Soundings of the Planet-Healing Music. “Borrow” a do not disturb sign from a hotel visit or make one to hang outside the door. It’s a way to telling your family that you’ve checked out for the next half hour!
- Do you love how before any treatment at spa there is always a quick scrub. You can create a quick DIY home body scrub that’s as good as any spa by trying the following: Buy a bag of Kosher salt and your favorite essential oil such as lavender or rose. Mix a teaspoon of oil to 12 cup of salt and blend until you have a loose paste. Don’t crush the salt granules. Keep this mixture in a plastic bowl near your shower or bath. By the way, skip the sugar scrubs. The granules are much smaller and less effective. Personally, I love Nantucket Natural Oils for their concentrated purity. Try adding flowers, including rose petals to this salt mix. Now, just use a cloth or a loofah and scrub your body from head to toe. It’s natural, cheap and you will feel like silk.
- Buy the biggest loofah you can find and a wonderful sea sponge. I have a two-foot loofah which is amazing because I can scrub my back . Many women love a good dry body brush with soft bristles. Give your entire body a brush before you get into the shower or bath. It’s a great way to get rid of dead skin cells and feel all-over smooth after you get out of the shower. Try a nice post-bath oil for even softer skin.
BEAUTY INSIDER. As I roam the world each week visiting different five-star spas, I’m always asked about the latest and greatest products. Here are a few home spa recommendations this week:
I love Tara Spa Therapy Single Note Essential Oils. I love her balancing massage oil, which only costs $21 or her detoxifying massage oil (also $21). The detox oil gently encourages your body to let go of toxins and also helps promote lymphatic draining. The key is the essential oil mix, which includes fennel, juniper, cypress, grapefruit, orange and black pepper for a little kick.
If you want to splurge a bit more try Sampar’s Lap of Luxury Sea Scrub for $80, which truly is a bargain because you’ll get at least eight treatments out of one jar. This is a great way to eliminate dead cells and impurities while softening your skin and refining the texture. Once you scrub away all the dead skin then the products you use will dramatically increase in their effectiveness.
If you’re not sure what bath to love then let me recommend Judith Jackson’s Bath and Body Products Essence Sampler for only $23.50. This beautiful gift set offers five aromatherapy blends of pure essences, so you can calm, energize or relieve tension at home. I’m a big fan of her oils named Serenity and Tenderly.
If you never pamper your feet, stop for a minute and try some tenderness for your tired tootsies. I have the Akhassa Skin Care Foot Soak at the ready for only $29. It contains the yummiest and truly stimulating lemongrass and peppermint essential oils, which will warm your muscles and improve your circulation while the sea salt in the product helps to detox your aching feet that didn’t ask to wear those high-heeled boots.
All of this can be found at mySpaShop Spa Products Boutique.
All my best,
Kim
