It’s answer time for the Beauty Science Poll. sweat

We posted 4 headlines and challenged you to figure out which was the fake.  Well, here’s how you did.

Beauty science headlines

1. Men are 100 times less likely to get breast cancer than women

2. Sometimes it’s better to use an aerosol deodorant than an antiperspirant

3. Antiperspirants are not a significant risk factor for breast cancer

4. Antiperspirants inhibit the release of toxins from your body

and the explanations…

Men are 100 times less likely to get breast cancer than women - TRUE

Around 31.0% of you thought this was fake but it isn’t. The reason is that men have about 100 times less breast tissue.

Sometimes it’s better to use an aerosol deodorant than an antiperspirant - TRUE

If you suffer from a condition called hidradenitis supurativa, it is better to use aerosol deodorants and avoid shaving. Only 16% of you thought this was fake. Nice going.

Antiperspirants are not a significant risk factor for breast cancer - TRUE

Happily, only 15% of you thought this was the fake. Despite the scare stories you’ve heard in the media, there is no correlation between antiperspirant use (even ones with parabens) and breast cancer. Nothing to fear here.

Antiperspirants inhibit the release of toxins from your body - FALSE

Here’s the fake that 38% of you figured out. Antiperspirants have never been shown to inhibit toxin release from your body. Toxins are NOT released from your body through sweat.
