Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.The rest of the Beauty Brains are taking some time off but I’m toiling away trying to get the blog ready for 
the holiday weekend. Here are the answers to last week’s Thanksgiving themed Beauty Science poll. The results were fairly even but most failed to identify the gravy story as the fake. Read on to get some explanations.
The smell of gravy was found to sexually arouse men - FALSE
25% thought this was the fake and you were right. While gravy can please the male palate it hasn’t been proven to arouse them. That Thanksgiving dinner table honor goes to pumpkin pie. According to research done by Dr. Alan Hirsch at the Smell and Taste Institute, Pumpkin pie and lavender had the ability to make men frisky.
Cranberry extract can inhibit breast tumor growth - TRUE
17% thought this was fake but it’s actually true. Not only is cranberry juice good for preventing urinary tract infections, it may also help fight breast cancer. At least that was the conclusion of this study published in the Journal of Nutrition. Drink up girls!
Potato juice can straighten your hair - TRUE
21% couldn’t believe this, but it is true. The Beauty Brains wrote about using potatoes to straighten hair a little while back.
Tryptophan is used to measure hair damage - TRUE
With 37% of you voting this as the fake, it seemed least believable. But it is true. Tryptophan is one of the amino acids that make up the proteins in your hair. It is also easily degraded by UV radiation, so when scientists want to know how much the sun damages hair, they measure the tryptophan amount lost.
