Is Mixing Skin Care Products Safe?

Kristin’s concerned: I’ve been told that mixing skin care products from different lines can cause “chemical warfare” on your face. The argument was that skin care lines are formulated to work together, and that mixing product lines can cause unwanted chemical reactions that can irritate, if not harm, your skin. Is there any truth to this?
The Left Brain lets her know:
There is little truth to this and almost certainly no harm will come from using the products from two different lines. It’s possible that the fragrances from 2 different product lines interact but this is an extremely low probability.
Marketing companies often say that skin products (or hair products) are designed to work together but this is almost always marketing nonsense to get you to buy multiple products from the same line.
A legitimate concern is that you apply products in the correct order. For example, putting on a moisturizer before applying a sunscreen or a retinol cream can keep the active ingredient from soaking in. (The Right Brain has blogged before about the wrong way to apply sunscreen.)
The Beauty Brains bottom line
The only thing you’re putting in danger by mixing Mychelle, Perricone, and La Mer is your hard earned money!
