7% of you guessed that this was the fake, but in fact it’s fact. A study in the journal of Cosmetic Dermatology reports that adding certain silicone compounds to some kinds of relaxer formulas can actually increase the tensile strength of hair, reducing protein loss and chance of breakage. That doesn’t mean that the relaxers don’t damage your hair at all, but it does show that hair strength can be improved.

2. Skin care products like facial scrubs and moisturizers are becoming increasingly popular among aging British men.

Bull sh##!

Got ya! Only 9% of you guessed that this story is really the fake. In reality, the opposite is true: According to the Mintel cosmetic product data base British guys are almost completely ignoring all skin care products with the exception of bar soap. And some of them don’t even use that! Only 17% of men over 65 think its acceptable to use skin care products. Over three quarters of these guys still use bar soap and only 1% have used facial scrubs.

3. Injectable wrinkle treatments like Restylane can cause arthritis

Beauty Science!

7% of our community thought we made up this story, but it’s the real deal. A study reported in the Archives of Dermatology showed that some permanent wrinkle gels can cause allergic reactions that include arthritis. The effect was observed with certain types of polyalkylimide gels and can take up to a year to tale effect. The study sample was only based on 25 patients so larger studies are probably needed before any definitive conclusions can be drawn.

4. A new kind of bubble bath can stay foamy for more than a year.

Beauty Science!

25% of all those who responded didn’t our super-foam story, but you should have! Its hard to believe but US scientists have found that tiny bubbles of air can remain intact for a year or longer if they’re made with the right kind of elastic-like surfactant. Besides being the ultimate bubble bath, this technology has application in paints, medicine and even ice cream. Yummy!
