Your Face Loves Steam

For those of you girls and guys reading this blog who have had a facial, you know that one of the first things a trained esthetician will do is to steam your face. In fact, facial steaming is recommended once a week to keep your skin glowing and healthy. There are a number of benefits to applying steam to your face or any part of your body. Here are some of the main benefits:

1. The warmth in the steam will improve the circulation of blood which will help remove toxins from the skin.

2. The steam helps remove dirt and debris which may have been embedded deep in the pores.

3. Steam also helps in the prevention and/or treatment of acne and blackheads.

One of my favorite estheticians recommends adding some herbs to the water before boiling such as lavender, thyme, and rosemary, mint or even rose petals. Not only can the herbs add to the therapeutic effect but they can also add an aromatherapeutic effect which can create a spa-like experience at home.

Boil the water and then pour the water into a pot or bowl that is off the stove. To be safe, place your face at least 2 feet from the pot so that you are not too close to the steam. If it feels excessively hot, remove your face from the steam immediately. You don’t want to break any blood vessels which will cause more harm then good. You can also use a flannel towel that’s been soaked with hot water and then rung out for a similar effect.

After about 10 minutes, pat down your skin with a soft, clean cotton towel. Apply a mask since there is no better time to apply a mask than after a steam treatment.

Use this treatment once a week and will help to keep your skin soft, glowing and beautiful.
